A. Carol Taylor

A. Carol Taylor, of Kankakee, departed this life Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Manor Care Nursing Home where she concluded her long battle with cancer. Carol was born in Kankakee to Corrine and August Shell on December 26, 1935. She was married to Robert L. Taylor who preceded her in death in 1986. She loved numbers and retired from Henkle after working thirty years for them as an accountant. One of Carol’s most meaningful accomplishments was receiving an Associate’s degree in accounting from KCC in 1984. She had no children, but had many close friends and family that she spent much of her time with. Carol loved playing bridge with her girlfriends every week and also enjoyed reading books and crocheting afghans for her loved ones. She also took pleasure in taking road trips to a number of states across the country and would collect a rock from each of one. Carol loved being around her great nieces and nephews and was a loyal and supportive fan of their sport and music events. She was a passionate, extremely strong, tenacious, and outspoken, woman which worked in her advantage when she assisted the Kankakee Power Group in the fight to keep a garbage dump out of Kankakee. She is survived by her sister Melody Kuffel and her husband John; sister-in-law, Marcia Lucky and her husband Jack; nephews, Terry Taylor and Kinley Shell and his wife Lauri; nieces, Dawn Pierce and her husband Matthew, Darlinda Holland, Tina Pauleson and her husband Andy, and Karen Cooper and her husband David; great nephews, Matthew and Joshua Taylor, Brayden and Tanner Shell, Tyler Pierce, and Brandon and Colton Holland; great nieces, Candice Latimer, Kristin Lackey and her husband Clayton, Amanda Holland, Kirsten and Alyssa Shell, and Corrine Cooper; and a great-great niece, Addison Lackey. Carol had a vivacious, loving spirit and will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her. Visitation for Carol will be held at the Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee on Tuesday, June 14th from 4-8pm. The funeral will be Wednesday, June 15th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a memorial for Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
