Anne Miller

Mesa, Arizona – Anne Wall Miller passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the age of 95. She was born on June 11, 1930, in East St. Louis, IL and spent her childhood years in Collinsville, IL. Anne went on to attend the University of Iowa where she earned a bachelor’s degree in child psychology and served as a member and president of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. While at the university, she met and married Robert G. Miller, with whom she was married until 1980. Together with their three children, the couple made their home in various communities in the upper Midwest, including Cheboygan, WI and Ishpeming, MI. In 1964, the Miller family relocated to Kankakee, IL after Robert G. Miller was appointed as the first chief executive officer of Riverside Hospital. During the hospital’s early years, she supported numerous women’s volunteer and social events. As an active long-time member within the Kankakee community, Anne will be remembered as an outstanding mother, teacher, writer, and pianist, as well as her life-long love of the fine arts. Anne enjoyed tennis, traveling, reading, bridge, and frequent trips to museums such as the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was a member for many years. During her time in the community, she would go on to serve in notable roles such as president of the Kankakee Public Library Board and the president of the board of the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra. She was also very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Kankakee, where she often served a member of the church session and as a regular Sunday liturgist. In addition to her community and charitable roles, she held various positions at the Kankakee Daily Journal and the YWCA and also spent many years as a writer and editor of the International Map Trade Association newsletter. She will be remembered as an outstanding communicator, not just through her writing, but through her patient ear and her steady and calm voice. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those who knew her. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alberta Wall of Edwardsville, IL; her brother, James Wall, Jr. of Salem, IL; and her daughter Roberta (Robbin) Miller of Kankakee, IL. She is survived by her two children, Stephen Miller (Davette) of Mesa, AZ, and Stuart Miller (Lili) of Barrington Hills, IL; and grandchildren, Andrew, Katherine, Sophia and Ryan. A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the11:00 a.m. memorial service on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made as a memorial book donation to the Kankakee Public Library.
