Carl Richard "Andy" Anderson

Carl Richard “Andy” Anderson, born in 1947 under circumstances that were unusual from the very beginning, left this world on August 14, 2026, after a life that was anything but ordinary. Andy was born in an insane asylum—which, in hindsight, may explain why he spent the rest of his life perfectly comfortable around all kinds of characters. And there were plenty of them. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a strong personality, and a way of making life a little more interesting simply by being in it. A proud United States Navy veteran, Andy served his country during the Vietnam War. His service was recognized with the Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Armed Forces Service Medal. He carried his service with pride but never needed to make a big show of it. His greatest pride, however, was his family. Andy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Rena “Kay;” his daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl & Kevin Clay, Elizabeth & Mike Rockert, and Rebecca & Derrick Cellarius; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. They were the people who mattered most to him, and his love for them was woven into everything he did. And then, of course, there were the Dodgers. Andy was a passionate Los Angeles Dodgers fan—loyal through the good seasons, the bad seasons, and those games that tested the patience of even the most dedicated fan. Baseball was more than a pastime for him; it was something to argue about, celebrate, complain about, and enjoy. In other words, it was perfect. Andy lived a life filled with service, family, laughter, opinions, memories, and more than a little stubbornness. He was a man who could make you laugh, make you shake your head, and make you grateful that you had him in your life—all sometimes within the same conversation. He will be deeply missed by the family who loved him, the friends who knew him, and everyone who had the privilege of sharing a little piece of his journey. So, Andy, wherever you are, we hope there is a comfortable chair, a cold drink, a baseball game on television, and a Dodgers team that knows what it’s doing. Thank you for your service. Thank you for the laughter. Thank you for the memories. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the 6:00 p.m. service on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. Inurnment will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Rest easy, Andy. Your watch is over. The Dodgers are on. And you are forever loved.
