Doris E. Nourie

Doris Evelyn (Evelina) Winroth Nourie, 90, of Papineau, went home to be with the Lord on Friday (Feb. 12, 2016) from Heartland Health Care Center in Paxton. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home, 214 W. Sheffield St., St. Anne, IL. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home in St. Anne, with the Rev. John Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Beaver Cemetery in rural Donovan. Doris was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Donovan, the eldest of three daughters of Oscar William and Helen Marie (Schaefer) Winroth. She married Byron P. Nourie Jr. on May 17, 1947, in Kentucky. They were married for 27 years and raised four children, Brenda, Alan, Phillip and Karen (Susie), on what became the family farm located west of Papineau. Doris always was a hard worker and succeeded in many jobs during her life. She graduated from Donovan High School and studied many college courses for her occupation as a tech 4 for 20 years, for which she took great pride and shared compassion for the residents at Shapiro Developmental Center in Kankakee, until her retirement at age 70. She was an excellent cook and made every meal from scratch. She made great wine and at Easter, she made the best fudge. Doris enjoyed making desserts for the Women's Guild, where she was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Papineau. She was a member of the church choir for many years. She loved her beautiful home and lived there in Papineau for 30 years. From 2006 to 2012,she lived with her daughter, Karen, and granddaughter, Brandi, where she lent a listening ear supporting her granddaughter's music career. Doris enjoyed gardening, decorating, music, dancing and always whistled and sang while busy. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and beloved pets. Surviving are four children, Brenda L. Nourie Emkes (Marc), of Champaign, Alan R. Nourie (Cheryl), of Manteno, Phillip W. Nourie of Dwight, Karen S. Nourie, of Champaign; sister, Sandra K. Good, of Watseka; six grandchildren, Jessica Emkes Jasper and Lacey Emkes, Dana Nourie, Anita Nourie, Amber Nourie and Brandi Mystic Skyy Carlson; four great-grandchildren, Carley O'Barr, Jimmy O'Barr, Derrick Jasper Jr. and Jeda Jasper. Preceding her in death were her loving parents, Oscar W. and Helen Marie (Schaefer) Winroth; sister, Rita Reynolds Jimison; granddaughter, Corrissa Louise Emkes; niece, Gloria Zirkle; brothers-in-law, Gaylord Good, Jim Reynolds, Roland (Burr) Jimison; fiance, William (Bill) Smith; and former husband, Byron P. Nourie Jr. Doris is loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Her family thanks all the relatives, friends and neighbors who have shared such kind words of comfort and support.
