Dorothy McGinnis -- BonfieldMrs. Dorothy McGinnis, 81, of Bonfield, passed away Friday (May 18, 2007) at her home, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Kankakee, where she was a member, until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial. Rev. Dennis Settles will officiate.Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Campus. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley and the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are by the Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home, west Kankakee.The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Moranski, she was born in Chicago, Feb. 8, 1926. She lived in Chicago then Essex as a child and went to Reddick High School. After high school she moved to Chicago and attended Selan's School of Cosmetology. Dorothy was a co-owner of PanMor beauty shop in Chicago when she married Jack McGinnis from Reddick. They were married at St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church in Essex on Oct. 23, 1949.Jack preceded her in death Sept. 25, 1999. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Christopher Hadley of Bonfield; grandson James Hadley of Sacramento, Calif.; granddaughter, Lauren Hadley of Folsom, Calif.; granddaughter, Mrs. Kristen Sanguinetti of Colfax, Calif.; granddaughter, Mrs. Mary Schorch of Bourbonnais; grandson, Matt Hadley of Bonfield; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Russell Smith of Essex; and her brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Sherry Moranski of Essex; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Alice and Dick Veronda of Kankakee; and numerous nieces and nephews.Dorothy enjoyed traveling with Jack and had many wonderful trips to Europe, South America, Australia and the Caribbean, including Cuba. They especially enjoyed touring the United States in their motor home. Dorothy liked to play golf with her girlfriends when they lived in New Jersey and enjoyed her bridge group. She was past president of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Alta and Rosary Society in Ridgewood, N.J.; she was a former member of the Lady Lions in Bonfield and the Tuesday Book Review of Kankakee. Dorothy was devoted to her family, church and always, throughout her life, had a kind and gentle spirit.
