Doug Shear

On May 12th God took our beloved Doug Shear, age 65, of Bourbonnais, up to heaven. He was born July 29, 1949 in Kankakee. Doug was raised with eleven siblings on a farm in Indiana by Melvin and Zetta Shear. He married Carolynne K. Schweizer on June 12, 1971. Doug had worked for JR Short Milling for 30 years. He was also the owner/operator of Doug’s Lawn Care. At the age of 10 he started his own little lawn care business which grew later into the business he owned and operated, Doug's Lawn Care. He loved anything John Deere and always dreamed of having a huge tractor to put in the driveway to just look at. Surviving are his wife, Carolynne Shear of Bourbonnais; one son and daughter-in-law, Brandon & Kim Shear of Kankakee; one daughter, Brittany Gernon of Kankakee; one Godson, Joe Kroesch; nine grandchildren, Codey, Tyler, Chaise, Taylor, Tanner, Isabella, Julian, Teagan, and Jordan; nine siblings, Gloria Lippold, Mel (Paula) Shear, Marlene (Bob) Meents, Janice Clarke, Judy Reiniche, Jack (Sharon) Shear, Don (Lana) Shear, Patty (Larry) Graves, and Jeff (Suzanne) Shear; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donna; Rhonda Hudson (Ron), Lana Carraher, Mitch Schweizer (Cindy), Rosalind Marten (Rick), Jeff Schweizer (Connie), Randy Schweizer (Donna), Monte Schweizer (Donna), and Todd Schweizer (Noelle); honorary children, Amber Stevenson and Paulla Grzych; honorary grandchildren, Sabrina Boothe, C.J. Wells, Kenny Sanders, and Larry Sanders. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob Shear; one sister, Shelby Cranor-Brasher; and one brother-in-law, Gary Schweizer. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Randy Schweizer will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Aroma Twp. Memorials may be made to the family wishes. He fought a valiant battle against kidney, liver, and heart disease. He was a very strong man and nothing was more important to him than his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters, and brothers. He was so kind and very generous, always thinking of others first. He took in several children that he loved like his own grandchildren. He also sponsored many local soccer teams. He was the most loving and wonderful husband. The last words he spoke were to his wife of 44 years were "I love you so much." Her last words to him were "Wait for me." Always the jokester, look out for what you said, for he was always looking for an opportunity to tease you. He was a simple, very hard working man who loved to be riding on his mower on a beautiful day while humming and enjoying the wonderous outdoors, or simply being at home with his family. He loved Dodge Ram trucks, Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand songs, his mom's homemade butterscotch and chocolate meringue pies, and an occasional margarita. Thank you God for letting us know and love this absolutely incredible man.
