Fayanne Horrell

Fayanne Horrell, 82, of Kankakee, died Monday (July 15, 2013) at her home, surrounded by her family. Cremation rites have been accorded. At Fayanne's request, there will be no visitation. Private graveside services will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. The Rev. George Miller will officiate. Memorials may be made to River Valley Christian Fellowship Church, Bourbonnais, or to Hospice of Kankakee Valley. Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home, west Kankakee, is in charge of arrangements. She was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Little York, Ill., the daughter of Lloyd and Margaret Carson Shughart. She was a member of River Valley Christian Fellowship in Bradley. Her loving husband of 62 years, Leslie L. Horrell Sr., preceded her in death May 31, 2013. She is survived by six children, Les (Brenda) Horrell, of Cave Creek, Ariz, Larry Horrell, Susan Horrell and David Horrell, all of Kankakee, Dan (Laura) Horrell, of Bourbonnais, and Maryann (Roger) Kenton, of Kankakee; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, Marc (Shelley) Horrell, and Tatum, Savannah and Lainey, all of Cave Creek; Matt (Jenn) Horrell, and Madeline, Grayson and Macallister, all of Gilbert, Ariz.; Seth (Tracy) Horrell, and Sara and Wesley, all of Chandler, Ariz.; Eric Horrell, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Phillip Horrell, of Kankakee; Amanda Horrell, of Chicago; Mark Argyelan, Samantha Argyelan, and Mark and Lily, all of Bourbonnais; Melissa Horrell (Grandma's angel on earth and caregiver), of Kankakee; and Rebecka Kenton and Jarod Kenton, of Kankakee. There are career military, and then there are career military wives — a calling in its own right. Fayanne was a proud military wife, supporting her husband's 21-year Navy career. She was able to be a stay-at-home mom to her six children and handled all of the family affairs when her husband was away protecting our country. Prior to her marriage, she attended nurse's training at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg. She was most happy in life when she was caring for her family. Her love and guidance will be greatly missed. She was always very involved in her children's activities, serving as a room mother for many years. She literally cut and hand-decorated thousands of sugar cookies, earning her the nickname of the "cookie" lady throughout the schools. Other volunteer efforts included Meals on Wheels for more than 12 years, the youth group at Asbury United Methodist Church, and reading tutoring for grade school youths. She was known for her loving heart, homemade pies and her ability to cook. She was adored by everyone that was involved in her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother-in-law. "And Jesus said to him, 'Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." — Luke 23:43.
