Dr. Miguel L. Hizon

Dr. Miguel L. Hizon, age 70 of Bourbonnais passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. He was born on April 22, 1956 in Manila Philippines, the son of Dr. Manuel Sr. and Yolanda (Llanes) Hizon. Dr. Hizon married Benilda Degracia on January 17, 1987 in Long Beach, California. Dr. Hizon was a nephrologist. He first joined the practice of Dr. Tapendu Basu in 1988. In 2000 Dr. Hizon opened his private practice Kidney Specialist of Kankakee, Inc. In 2003, Dr. Miguel Hizon and Dr. Paritosh Tiwari started the Manteno Dialysis venture which went live in 2005. In 2013, Dr. Miguel Hizon, Dr. Paritosh Tiwari and Dr. Nashib Hashmi opened the Iroquois Kidney Center and Peritoneal Dialysis. He was in practice with Dr. Paritosh Tiwari and Dr. Nashib Hashmi at 2HT Kidney Care where all the doctors merged all three individual practices. Dr. Hizon was affiliated with Riverside Medical Center and St. Mary’s Hospital of Kankakee, Illinois. Dr. Hizon graduated from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, where he ranked among the top five in his medical class of 1980. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Chicago Medical School and went on to finish his fellowship in Nephrology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He was a member of the American Society of Nephrology and board-certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He valued his memberships in the Illinois State Medical Society and the Kankakee County Medical Society. He also served as President of the Midwest Chapter of the UERM Memorial Medical Center Alumni Association and was a board member of the Philippine Medical Association of Chicago. He was also an active parishioner at Maternity BVM Catholic Church in Bourbonnais. He took great pride in his fraternity, Tau Gamma Phi Midwest. He also cherished the close camaraderie of his UERM Class of 1980 classmates. An exceptional physician, he was also a loving husband and father and a devoted papa to Samuel Mason and Sydney May. He will be remembered as a kind and generous man who loved numbers, reading, and swimming, and who deeply valued his colleagues and friends. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the medical staff at University of Chicago Medicine, Riverside Medical Center, and Riverside Miller Rehabilitation Center for the exceptional care provided. They are especially grateful to Dr. Paritosh Tiwari, Sean Burgess, NP, and Rita Villafria, RN, as well as to Father David, chaplain at the University of Chicago Medicine, who offered compassionate support throughout his care journey. Surviving is his wife, Benilda of Bourbonnais; two daughters, Sarah Mae and Wellington Ferreira of Lombard, Sophia Magdalene and Michael Boyer of Bourbonnais; one son, Dr. Steven Hizon of Lexington, KY; two sisters, Marianne Hizon Crisol of North Carolina, Michelle Hizon (Rolando) Pingul of Lombard; three brothers, Melvyn (Belen) Hizon of Houston, TX, Marlon Hizon of Westchester, IL, Mathews (Rina) Hizon of Milpitas, CA; one stepbrother, Gregory (Ivelisse) Lynch of Cary, IL; two grandchildren, Samuel Mason and Sydney May Boyer. He also had numerous nieces and nephews. Dr. Hizon is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Manuel Jr. Hizon; and his stepfather, Wallace Lynch. Visitation will be held from 3 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00pm on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Maternity B.V.M. Catholic Church in Bourbonnais. Inurnment will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows in Hillside at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass.
