Richard E. Legris

Richard E. Legris, 88, of St. Anne, died Sunday, July 10, 2016 at his daughter’s home in Kankakee. He was born February 9, 1928, in St. Anne, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Wingerter) Legris. He married Edna Marie Dreska on April 18, 1949, at St. Rose Church in Kankakee. He was employed by Roper Corporation in Bradley, Illinois, for 32 years, where he worked in quality control. Later, he worked at Hobart Corporation, in south Chicago, also in quality control. He was a lifelong member of the St. Anne Catholic Church. In his later years, he lived with his daughter Mary and son-in-law Darwin Peerbolte. He enjoyed time with his family, including his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard and his wife, Edna, enjoyed traveling together, especially in their later years. They were able to make many trips to Europe and northern Africa. Also, they travelled extensively in the western United States with their daughter and son-in-law Linda and James Booth and the Booth children. They also spent many years researching family genealogy for both their families, including trips to various cities in Canada, including Montreal and Quebec, to meet family members and share information. Richard and Edna celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2009 at a Mass at St. Anne Catholic Church with their family and friends present. Richard was a sports fan, especially the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and Bears. He was also an avid gardener throughout his life. After retiring, he enjoyed morning trips to a local restaurant where he shared coffee and time with friends. Surviving are his children: daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Darwin Peerbolte, of Kankakee; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Connie Legris, of Bradley, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Carrick Legrismith, of Clinton, Michigan; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and James Booth, of Los Alamitos, California; and daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Paul Mersch, of Normal, Illinois. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; one son, Stephen Legris; his parents; one brother, George Legris; and one sister, Bernice (Legris) Hiser. Visitation will be at St. Anne Catholic Church in St. Anne on Saturday, July 16th, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Anne Catholic Cemetery.
