Robert L. Livermore

Robert L. Livermore Visitation for Robert L. Livermore, 90, of Beaverville, will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home in St. Anne, and from noon Monday at St. Martin’s Church in Martinton until the 1 p.m. funeral service. Father Robert Coleman will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Memorials may be made to Mary Knoll or St. Martin’s Church in Martinton. He died Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2011) at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital. Mr. Livermore was a millwright at International Harvester and had worked many side jobs for his best friend, Jake Klomp. He also worked in maintenance at Hazelcrest Hospital for 20 years. He retired from International Harvester in 1982. He was born Oct. 14, 1920, in Morrison, the son of Ernest G. and Bertha Markewitch Livermore. After retirement he was in partnership with his wife, Dorothy, and his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Terry Johnson, at the Whispering Oaks Campground in Beaverville. He served in the U.S. Army from July 15, 1942 to Dec. 27, 1945. He was awarded one overseas service bar, one service stripe, the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze battle star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was a messenger during World War II. He was a member of the VFW in Watseka. He built his own motorcycle while in the Philippines and taught others how to ride. Mr. Livermore enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles. He met his wife at a rollerskating rink. He also liked being outside, especially mowing grass. He loved Volkswagens. Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy L. Hamilton, of Beaverville, whom he married Dec. 12, 1942; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Robert L. Jr. and Sally Livermore, of Frederick, Okla., Richard Charles Livermore, of Colon, Michigan, Gary R. and Susan Livermore, of New Lenox, Steven M. and Colleen Livermore, of Minnetrista, Minn., and Eugene K. and Kris Livermore, of Blythewood, S.C.; two daughters, Sandra L. Doll, of Munster, Ind., and Pat A. Johnson, of Beaverville; one daughter-in-law, Sue Livermore, of Lone Wolf, Okla.; 29 grandchildren, and one on the way; many great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Liz Diaz, of Melbourne, Fla.; and one sister-in-law, Virginia Livermore, of Homewood. He was preceded in death by one son, David Wayne Livermore; two sons-in-law, Terry Johnson and George Doll; one daughter-in-law Kathi Livermore; and one brother, Charles Livermore.
