Sally Jo Voigt

Our beloved Sally Jo (Reid) Voigt, born October 14, 1945, was peacefully called to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 28, 2024 while surrounded by loved ones. She joined those in Heaven who passed before her. Sally grew up in Chicago Heights and attended Bloom High School. She married Melvin Stanley Voigt on October 7, 1967, and they had two children, Ryan Seth Voigt (Regina) and Lee Ellen Palan (John). Her fur baby, Rocky, filled their lives with happiness too. However, Sally’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. If you knew Sally, you knew her grandchildren through her stories. Sally’s five grandchildren are Caleb Seth Voigt (Lo), Noah Michael Voigt (Camila), Elle Taylor Loitz (Ashton), Daniel Richard Palan (Hadleigh), and David Reid Palan (Dana). Her goal in life was to make sure they were happy and to see what their futures beheld. Sally confidently left this life ensured of their happiness. Sally blessed many people's lives with her multiple employment opportunities. She worked for VacuDyne and C & EI Railroad both in Chicago Heights. Teaching baton lessons to the "Twirling Sweethearts" was also one of the highlights of her life. Later, she worked for Michael Leonard Seed Company and E & E Manufacturing in Grant Park. She was also a secretary at Grant Park Elementary School and at Momence Packing Company. Finally, "Miss Sally" retired from the Currency Exchange in Momence after managing it for 18 years. After retirement, her "hobby job" was at the Dance in the Light studio in Bradley. To know Sally was to love her. She enjoyed vacationing and spending time with her family. Many years were spent with Mel and their camping club as they traveled around the country. She looked forward to attending the kids' sporting events, playing cards with friends, and planning her Wednesdays with the ladies. If Sally was not planning parties and social events, she might be found eating out at one of her many favorite restaurants. Most of all, she loved making S’mores at the campfire. Her smile was contagious for all those who loved her and her presence was the best gift. May God allow her to organize all the heavenly parties and find warmth in his arms! Sally is preceded in death by her parents, David and Helen Reid, her brother, David Reid Jr., her grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews. Visitation for Sally will be at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral home (Kankakee) on Thursday, October 3rd from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be at Grace Methodist Church (Bourbonnais) on Friday, October 4th at 11 am, and burial will be at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorials to the family so they may continue her legacy of giving by donating to her favorite charities.
