Virginia M. Cross

Virginia M. Cross, age 95, of Countryside, formerly of Kankakee, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Meadowbrook Manor in La Grange, Illinois. She was born November 26, 1923 in Chicago, the daughter of George and Lotta Ferguson Stilwell Virginia married Gordon B. Cross on May 23,1956. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1988. Virginia was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox. She enjoyed doing crafts, and made blankets for all the first babies in the family Surviving are one daughter & son-in-law, Linda (Louis) Gasperini of Countryside, Il; one daughter-in-law, Karen Cross of Bourbonnais; six grandchildren, Cynthia (David) McCarty of Lagrange Park, Brett Cross of Chicago, Bryan (April) Cross of Kankakee, Sarah (John) Fetterer of Bourbonnais, Michael (Liz) Gasperini of Kinmundy, Louis (Rhonda) Gasperini of Clifton; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Katherine McCarty, Frank, Oliver, and Isabella Cross, Jack, Robert, Peter, and Jude Fetterer, Alyssa, Anthony, Mia, and Dominick Gasperini, Cora (Greg) Long: and great-great-grandchildren, Jason Ajlon, Corey Long, Laila Long, and Sophia Guiliano Virginia is also survived by two sisters, Betty Eighner of Kankakee, and Dorothy Schaumberg of Watseka; sister-in-law, Joyce Pombert of Pickerington; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Zandra) Cross, and Eileen Cross; and many nieces and nephews. She was also honorary great-grandmother to Matthew, Emily, and Alexis Katsianis, and Loretta and Cameron Baltrum. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; foster parents, Rene and Lillian Pombert; son Michael G. Cross; brothers, Jack Pombert and George Stilwell. Virginia was also preceded in death by mother and father-in-law, Deland and Betty Cross; five sisters in law, Arlene Stilwell, Margeau Stilwell, Lucille Cross, Stella Cross, and Betty LaGesse; and five brothers-in-law, Russell Cross, Marshall Cross, Donald Miller, David Schaumberg, and Ronald LaGesse. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Deacon Joseph Cotugno will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Kankakee Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
