Vivien "Bub" Emling

Bub Emling Vivien M. “Bub” Emling, 87 of Bonfield passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Illinois Veterans Home, Manteno. He was born March 14, 1927 in Salina Township, the son of John & Clara (Fritz) Emling. He married Verna M. Delabre June 4, 1949 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Kankakee. To say that he was a farmer is not enough. He never owned his own land, but worked others' land. His corn sheller and red cob crusher were important for many area farmers in the days when ear-corn was stored in corn cribs until ready for market. He was also well known to many for his hay cutting and baling services. He loved gardening. Bub was a big part of the Bonfield community. Years ago, he was a volunteer fireman. He was a founding member of the Bonfield Sportsmans and Lions Clubs. During his life-time membership in the Lions Club, he held several offices including President and Treasurer, and was well-known as the cook for the monthly Bonfield Lions Pancake Breakfasts. For many years, on the 4th of July, he worked from sun-up to sun-down bbqing the chicken and setting off fireworks. July 4, 2014, he was honored as a Grand Marshall of the Bonfield 4th of July Parade. He enjoyed chatting with friends at the Bonfield community coffee shop. Mr. Emling was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Goodrich and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Surviving are his wife, Verna M. Emling of Bonfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Rodney & JoCarol Emling of Bonfield; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara & Kelly Grindstaff of Macomb, Susan & David Paulissen of Waterloo, and Sandra & Todd Dion of Limestone; one brother, Leo Emling of Herscher; eight grandchildren, Cherie Emling, Dr. Jennifer Grindstaff, Robin Armellino, Jason Grindstaff, Katie Paulissen, Sarah Paulissen, Andy Paulissen, and Michael Dion; and five great-grandchildren, Andrea Entwistle, Riley Armellino, Haley Armellino, Jackson Loehring, and Linnea Andersson. He is preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremiah Emling; one sister, Dolores Yeagle; four brothers, Robert Emling, Paul Emling, Harold Emling, and Donald Emling; and two brothers-in-law, Edward Delabre Jr. and Richard Delabre Sr. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home, Kankakee. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Goodrich. Rev. Doug Hauber will celebrate the mass. Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kankakee.
