Jose Antonio Gaytan, age 66, of Kankakee, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. He was born on September 4, 1955 in Mexico, the son of Jose and Maria (Martinez) Gaytan. He married Christine Fortin on September 4, 1976 in Kankakee. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2006. Jose worked at Belson Steel Center Scrap for 46 years. He enjoyed flowers, gardening, baseball, and cookouts. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and grandkids. Jose is survived by one son, Jose Gaytan (fiancée, Jennifer) of Kankakee; one daughter, Lindsey Gaytan of Kankakee; his grandchildren, Armando, Jamile, Isabella, Vasella, Aubriella, and special grandchild and best friend, Adriel Gaytan. He is also survived by a large extended family. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 12, 2022 also at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. Kenneth Hughes will officiate the service. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Memorials may be made to family wishes.
