Bruce Leggett

Bruce Leggett, 61, of Limestone, passed away on Wednesday, Feb 17th with his mother and brother at his side. He will be dearly missed by family, friends and all who knew him. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at First Assembly of God Church on Rt 17 West in Kankakee. Pastor Randy Caswell will officiate. Please sign his guestbook at www.clancygernon.com Never losing his hope or his humor, Bruce fought a courageous two year battle with lung cancer. He did not feel sorry for himself or think life was unfair. He never used his illness as a crutch or an excuse. He lived his life the best way he knew how, until the end. Bruce made his living as a contractor. He could build new homes or remodel old ones. He could refurbish anything. He was an honest, hard working man who would give you the shirt off his back and ask nothing in return. He was, without a doubt, the world's biggest John Wayne fan. In his past, Bruce was known around town as a hard living, fun loving guy. He was always ready to grab the microphone and belt out a rafter raising rendition of 'Mabeline' or a heart breaking version of 'He Stopped Loving Her Today'. He was always the life of the party. When the band started playing, he started dancing. In his later years, he lived a quieter, more laid back life, but never lost his laughter. Bruce was the son of Ralph and Katie Magruder, who survive along with his son Cris Leggett, daughter Angie Leggett, grandson Xander Sims, brother Ralph W Magruder, step brothers Rick and Lanny Magruder, brother-in-law 'Uncle Bob' Truesdell, niece Tracy Truesdell, nephews Joshua, Samuel and Matthew Magruder and many aunts and uncles. Also surviving are his cousins. To us, he was a gift. He had a soft heart wrapped up in a rugged exterior and a laugh a minute personality. He was our cousin and our friend. He made us laugh. It was truly a joy to be with him. Along with other cousins who have passed, we have wonderful, happy, fun filled memories that have carried us from childhood into our later years. We will miss him. The greatest sorrow in Bruce's life was the loss his precious big sister Pam Truesdell, who he loved so very much. Also preceding him in death were his father Raymond Leggett, infant brother Michael Leggett, niece Jamie Heagle and girlfriend Cathy Kelly. We know that Bruce asked for forgiveness from our Lord, and because of His grace we all have the hope of seeing him again. Rest peacefully, Brucie, we love you.
