Charles "Chuck" Gonczy

Charles “Chuck” Gonczy, 74, passed away from this life to his eternal home on Sunday, Nov. 13, at Miller Rehabilitation Center, Kankakee. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Chicago to Louis and Elizabeth Gonczy on March 18, 1942. He grew up in the small town of Morocco, IN. He graduated from Morocco High School in 1960, and then joined the United States Navy, where he served as a Hospital Corpsman in Washington D.C. Chuck married Diane Lambert on February 4, 1967 at St. Joseph Church in Bradley they were married 49 years. They raised two amazing daughters who had their dad wrapped around their fingers. Chuck recently retired from the Secretary of the State of Illinois Office. Currently had been serving as a Commissioner on the Police and Fire departments for the Village of Bradley. He was also an active member of the Bradley Bourbonnais Rotary club, serving as president in 2014-15. He was also a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member and a Bradley American Legion member. Chuck enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling and dinner with special friends. But most of all being a Papa to his four grandchildren Julia, Abby, Jack and Max who he adored. He is survived by his wife Diane. Children Gina (Chip) Shaw of Wheaton, Amy (Larry) Thompson of Bradley, and grandchildren Julia and Jack Shaw of Wheaton and Abby and Max Thompson of Bradley. Special nephew Bobby (Diane) Gonczy of Morocco, IN. Brother Robert (Barb) Gonczy of Morocco, IN., Louis (Carma) Gonczy of Arizona, and Beth (Gill) Boyd Lott of Maryland. And many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents and brothers, Patrick and Michael. Chuck will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. He was a natural born storyteller and he loved sharing stories and jokes. In fact he recently wrote a memoir of his days growing up in Morocco, IN. He was very proud of his book Growing Up Charley, leaving this legacy to his family and friends. Visitation scheduled for Wednesday, November 16, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais from 4:00-8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 17, at St. Joseph Church in Bradley at 11:00 am. Memorials suggested to the Kankakee Valley Autism Society and St. Joseph Church, Bradley.
