Maxine Neumann

Maxine Neumann, 98, of Kankakee, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017. She was born July 10, 1918 in Momence, IL, the daughter of Merrill and Maysie Kious Chamberlain. Maxine married Denzil F. Neumann on December 25, 1938 at the First Baptist Church in Kankakee. Rev. Denzil Neumann passed away on December 21, 2000. As a pastor’s wife and homemaker, she faithfully served by his side for 50 years in Baptist churches in Estherville, Iowa, Chicago, Hoopston, Chillicothe, Urbana, IL, and at Grace Baptist Church in Kankakee. In a note her husband wrote to his family, he said to his wife “you are God’s gift to me.” She lovingly cared for her husband at their home as his health failed. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Kankakee. Maxine is survived by one sister, Irene Voigt, of Springfield, IL; one half sister-in-law, Charlotte Fisher, of Rockledge, FL; four sons, Denzil R. Neumann, of Kankakee, Rev. Douglas Neumann and his wife Connie, of Sterling, KS, Rev. Philip Neumann and his wife Betty, of Danville, IL, and David Neumann, of Urbana, IL; two daughters, Asenath Brunner and her husband Wilbert, of Kankakee, and Rebekah Adkins, of Knoxville, TN; 14 grandchildren, Barbara (Ron) Meitler, of Smith Center, KS, Staci (Larry) Fulbright, of Sterling, KS, Carla (Travas) Boeken, of Sterling, KS, Rev. Kevin (Mary) Brunner, of Camarines Sur, Philippines, Corina (Darren) Bray, of Chenoa, IL, Brenda (Army Chaplain Chris) Wyrick, of Springfield, MO, Michelle (Rev. Tim) Berlin, of Warren, MI, Kary (Sandy) Brunner, of Bentonville, AR, Kurt (Tabitha) Brunner, of Essex, IL, Daniel (Jennifer) Neumann, of Newnan, GA, Angela Lane, Aaron (Jessica) Adkins, Scott Adkins, and Lori (Nathan) Hernandez, all of Knoxville, TN; 36 great grandchildren, Ronica, Kaden, Lucas Meitler, Max and Ty Fulbright, Derek, Brooke, Haddassah, and Jacynn Boecken, Stephanie (Peter) Schellenberger, Joshua, Caleb, Ethan, Sherrylee Bray, Alysse (Miguel) Rodriguez, Shane, Brynn, Carly, Paige Wyrick, Nathan (Taylor) Berlin, Stephen, Andrew, and Jonathan Berlin, Morgan, Karsan, Sydney, and Quinton Brunner, Kamdon, Tiffany, Meghan, and Hudson Brunner, Jason Neumann, Summer, Brandon, Dylan Lane, Ethan, Sarah, Jonah Adkins, and Alixander and Kailey Hernandez; and a great-great granddaughter, Juliet Asenath Berlin. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; two sisters, Ruby Deuschle and Helen Saylor; one son-in-law, Raymond Adkins; two granddaughters, Lisa Rene and Laura Beth Neumann; one grandson, Jason Derek Neumann; two great grandsons, Ryan Joseph Bray and Lincoln Andrew Brunner. She was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother as could be attested by her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was always ready to speak to others about her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and praising Him for His blessings to her, through her life. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church in Kankakee. Rev. Scott Paisley will officiate. Burial will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery in Kankakee. Memorials may be made to Camp Assurance in Georgetown, Illinois.
