Robert Murray -- MantenoVisitation for Robert P. Murray, 78, of Manteno, will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Manteno. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manteno.Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Manteno. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or to Alzheimer's Research. He died Monday (Feb. 18, 2008) at Miller Center.Mr. Murray was a retired director for the Manteno Resolve Center and also worked at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Oak Lawn. He had been a Realtor for Speckman Realty. He was born Nov. 16, 1929, in Stockton, the son of John T. and Stella Smythe Murray. He received his Bachelors of science and Masters of science degrees from Northern Illinois University. He served during the Korean conflict in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Kankakee Association of Realtors, Manteno Rotary and was past president of the Manteno Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manteno, the Knights of Columbus and the Northeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging. He helped coach his children's baseball and softball teams, enjoyed traveling, especially going to Ireland, family reunions and vacations and was an avid Cubs fan and Notre Dame football fan. He liked playing euchre and poker and doing crossword puzzles.Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Cziraki, whom he married July 9, 1960, in Westerville, Ohio; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard and Roberta Cutler of Dixon, Michael and Stephanie Murray of Manteno, Debra Cutler Harmon of Marsailles; eight daughters and six sons-in-law, Patricia and James Cahill of Rockford, Frances Raab of Nora, Susan and Noel Pettenger of Roscoe, JoAnna and Marshall Girton of Oregon, Michelle and Russell Shreffler of Manteno, Roberta and Patrick Forrest of Janesville, Wis., Kathleen and Michael Shores of Manteno, Lisa Price of Frankfort; 39 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.Deceased are two sons, Daniel Cutler and Ronald Murray; one grandson, Jeffrey Pettenger; one great-grandson; his parents; one brother, Martin Murray; and one sister, Marian Ferguson.
